A Net2 system from Paxton Access has been installed at the National Star College, an independent specialist college near Gloucester.
Many of the doors in the residencies are now hands-free enabled with automatic door openers.
Some of the students attach the tokens to their wheelchairs and the proximity readers pick up the signal and unlock the door as they approach.
The college helps young students fulfil their potential through innovative programmes of education and independence training.
Students with severe and complex conditions attend from across the UK.
Gerald Noble, Projects Engineer and Lynette Barrett the Residential Services Manager, decided to improve security as part of the college development plan.
Lynette Barrett said Net2 hands free, which complies with the Disability Discrimination Act, was easy to manage and could expand with their needs.
“It’s a busy place and Net2 has helped to increase privacy and made students more independent – something they strive for and are proud of, ” she said.
