Sensory introduces combined voice and vision biometric authentication for mobiles, tablets and PCs

Sensory today announced TrulySecure, a technology suite with combined voice and vision biometric authentication to address the issues caused by fingerprint and PIN identification for mobile phones, tablets and PCs.

The technology suite is available to OEM product developers in an SDK that unites Sensory’s speaker verification technology with its newly developed, proprietary, face recognition engine.

The combination of face recognition and speaker verification to authenticate a specific individual allows users to rest assured that their device is secure, without the hassle of entering a password or PIN every time they want to access it.

High end mobile phones have begun using biometric fingerprint solutions for entry, but consumer acceptance has been poor because of the need to frequently re-swipe the finger to gain access. The added cost for the fingerprint feature is $5-$10 per phone, making it expensive to implement. Sensory’s approach uses the existing microphone and camera so there is no added hardware cost, making it applicable for lower cost devices, while improving on accuracy across a wide range of environmental conditions.

“Consumers generally find it cumbersome to use PINs or passwords to lock their phones, and as a result these devices often go unlocked,” said Todd Mozer, CEO of Sensory. “Sensory’s biometric authentication provides a high level of security, while still being convenient and fast enough that people will use it.”

TrulySecure, like fingerprint ID, is an on-device biometric not requiring a cloud connection. This is a preferred approach for consumers who don’t want their biometric information stored outside their personal devices. Embedded biometrics are also the preferred approaches for higher security because cloud based systems are easier to hack and break into.

“Sensory is continuing to exhibit leadership in handsfree control by allowing a secure multimodal biometric that doesn’t require touching devices to make them work,” said Dan Miller, Sr Analyst at Opus Research. “Combining biometrics is an excellent approach to improving accuracy and performance across environmental conditions.”
