Britain’s largest single-site university had already been using Integrated Design’s R200 AS barrier arm turnstiles to keep its 35,000 students safe, but after five years, it was time for an upgrade.
Working with BLE Security the university chose to install Fastlane Plus R300 MA turnstiles at the front and rear entrances, including two new pass gates for disabled access and deliveries. The R300 MA is said to offer faster throughput and more security features than the original model used by the university.
The barrier-arm turnstiles that make up the Fastlane Plus range use optical technology to monitor the passage of every individual entering and leaving the building. Integrated design claims the fast-acting barrier arms will physically deter any unauthorised access.
At the university, the system is integrated with an Assa Abloy magstripe access control system to help prevent the most common of access control violations, such as tailgating, ‘pass-back’ and unauthorised entry.
“We were really happy with the original Fastlane pedestals installed on site,” said BLE’s John Dent.
“But with such an increase in the level of technology available today and the change in architectural design, not to mention the high level of use they have received, an upgrade was imminent.
“Fastlane Plus was again the obvious choice as it gives the same fast throughput required for such a large number of people, while greatly improving on the current security and aesthetics.”
