Yahoo! India R&D announces its second Open Hack Day

Yahoo! India R&D has announced its ‘Open Hack Day India’ to be held on February 14 and 15 at The Taj Residency in Bangalore. David Filo, co-founder and ‘Chief Yahoo’ will kick off the second ‘Open Hack Day India’.

This is the 5th Open Hack Day organized by Yahoo! worldwide. The event had its beginning in 2006 in Sunnyvale and since then Yahoo! has taken it globally to London, Taiwan and for the second time in Bangalore.

Hack Days started as an internal event that brought Yahoo! developers together and expanded into regular events in offices around the globe. The purpose of Open Hack Day is to celebrate, share, and bring developers from all over the country together to create cool new applications.

To facilitate the same, Yahoo! opens its products, platforms and APIs (Application Programming Interface) so developers can build on Yahoo! UI libraries, product APIs, and more with their great ideas.

Open Hack Day is a two-day event that commences with a developer workshop with sessions led by Yahoos, and progresses to an overnight Hack Camp with food, music, concluding with demos, judging and awards.

Speaking about the event Sharad Sharma, CEO, Yahoo! India R&D, said: “‘Open’ is a part of Yahoo!’s DNA that the company emphasizes on. Open Hack Day celebrates innovation and demonstrates our commitment to open technologies and opportunities for developers. It is fun but also educational, practical and is a key element of Yahoo!’s ongoing strategy.”

Yahoo! India R&D recently held Hack U events for the first time in India at IIT-Delhi and IIT-Mumbai. These events gave innovative young thinkers the opportunity to use Yahoo! open technology to develop and showcase their dream applications.
