40 firefighters attend London tower block blaze

Around 40 firefighters were called to a fire in a tower block in London earlier this week.

The blaze damaged part of a flat on the 17th floor of a 21-storey block in Bermondsey.

It was first thought to have been caused by lightning, but London Fire Brigade has since said that early indications suggest otherwise.

Crews were alerted just before 2 pm on 28 June, and the fire was under control by 3.44 pm.

Station manager Richard Welch said: "Our crews did really well to quickly gain entry into the flat where the fire started and to stop it from spreading to any of the other flats in the building."
