Blaze at Brixton Academy

Brixton Academy played host to 20 firefighters this Christmas as a fire broke out in the bar area of the famous venue.

The fire broke out on the morning of Christmas Eve in the auditorium bar area of the three-storey building, leaving it badly damaged. Fortunately, as the venue on Stockwell Road was closed, no one was injured in the incident.

In November we reported how this venue and other O2 academies across the country had Evac+Chairs fitted to assist in evacuating less mobile members of the audience. As the venue was closed, these of course did not have to be used.

The fire broke out just before 0400, and was under control by 0525, according to the London Fire Brigade.

The cause is still under investigation.
