As the first match of Wimbledon fortnight starts today on centre court, some of the spectators will inevitably look up during breaks in play at the magnificent new roof – the retractable part of which was completed in time for this year’s championships.
The fixed sections of the roof, completed last year, were constructed using a fire resistant system from Kingspan Insulated Panels. The KS500 Kingzip standing seam system with a stucco embossed mill finish was chosen by architects HOK Sport.
“We needed a standing seam system to fit in with the existing aesthetic of the courts, and wanted to use composite panels to avoid the time demands of fixing extra acoustic insulation,” said Dale Jennins of HOK Sport. “Kingzip proved to be the ideal product.”
Kingspan claims the system is the only composite panel standing seam system with greater installation efficiency over built-up alternatives. Versatility is offered by the availability of both 500mm and 1000mm cover widths, with the 500mm option used for more than 70 different roof parts on centre court.
