Historic Liverpool building damaged by fire

[

A fire broke out this week at the Bluecoat arts centre, one of Liverpool’s oldest city centre buildings.

According to a report in the Liverpool Daily Post, an automatic alarm system alerted Merseyside Fire and Rescue at around 4.00 am on Tuesday 13 May.

Some 30 firefighters broke their way in and spent over three hours tackling the fire. The fire gutted the first floor kitchen and smoke travelled through vents to other floors in the building. However the fire was contained in the kitchen area with around 80 per cent of the complex unaffected by it, including the performance areas and galleries.
