Tall orders for fire crews

Firefighters had a rare opportunity to practice their high-rise rescue skills when contractor JLP let them use a couple of tower blocks – days before they were due to be demolished.

Firefighters from Leyton in north east London were involved in the exercise on the 22 storey tower blocks – St Catherine’s Tower and St Paul’s Tower – on the Beaumont Estate.

Procedures included searching for dummies in a smoke filled flat, using dry risers and fire lifts, and reviewing command and control procedures.
