Two firefighters injured in warehouse blaze

[

Two firefighters have been injured trying to tackle a fire at a warehouse in Edmonton, north London. The fire took 60 firefighters 36 hours to put out. After the blaze the warehouse was damaged beyond repair and was subsequently destroyed.

The fire started at 7:43am on 10 July at a warehouse in Edmonton. At the height of the blaze there was a total of 12 fire engines, two aerial units and 60 firefighters were on the scene. The one-storey warehouse was part of the Eley Trading Estate and was 75 by 40 metres in size. It had been used to store stock including toys, umbrellas and plastic bags, which were all destroyed. The warehouse was made out of concrete which meant that it was difficult for the firefighters to gain access. The fire was put out the following Saturday, although there were still four fire engines at the site on the Monday.

Meanwhile a storage facility in Birkenhead suffered a major fire which took 12 firefighters five hours to bring under control. At the height of the blaze there were 12 fire engines at the scene along with aerial assistance. After the fire had been brought under control, dampening down took another 24 hours. There was also damage to the roof, to the brick wall at the rear and to the supporting walls of the adjoining buildings. Fire damage was also sustained by the buildings on either side.

At this early stage the cause of the blaze is believed to be deliberate.
