As part of Fire Door Safety Week, the ASFP has released a video showing some of the key elements of a fire door and explaining how they work.
Fire minister Brandon Lewis has praised the British Woodworking Foundation (BWF) for organizing the awareness-raising initiative. He said yesterday:
I am pleased that the BWF is proactively working to raise awareness of an important area of fire safety through non-regulatory routes. We welcome all positive interventions that promote particular fire safety messages with relevant audiences to help reduce the devastating impact that fire can cause.
The video is a step-by-step guide to identifying and checking a fire door, the role of each component part of the door, and the importance of correct installation and maintenance.
Fire Door Safety Week is taking place from 16-21 September, with a range of events and awareness-raising initiatives. Earlier today, BM Trada carried out a live fire door test, which was streamed online.
Iain McIlwee, the Chief Executive of the BWF, called on people to add their voice to the campaign:
Contact your MP, Local Fire Chief and any major Housing Associations, relevant Local Authority representatives in your area and vitally send details to your community (via newsletters, social media, etc) to see if they can benefit from the multitude of local and national initiatives that are taking place. Even simply adding a “Supporting Fire Door Safety Week, 16th-21st September, www.firedoorsafetyweek.co.uk” to your email signature will help.
