Senior management restructure unveiled by NSI

A review of the National Security Inspectorate’s (NSI) management structure was instigated earlier this year by the NSI Board with the aim of streamlining management effort and ensuring that the certification body is more agile and focused upon its approved companies.

As a result of the review, Chris Pinder becomes director of external affairs with responsibility for the outward-looking vision and stakeholder management aspects of the organisation.

Elaine Ward takes on the role of commercial director (with a sales, marketing, training and affinity partnerships remit) while Kay Aitkin retains her operations portfolio but with a title change to that of director of service delivery.

Graeme Hazlewood steps into the business support director’s role to oversee the NSI’s finance, IT and infrastructure.

This newly structured management takes place with immediate effect.

Desire to become more responsive and proactive

Speaking about the changes, Jeff Little OBE – the NSI’s CEO – asserted that he feels they’ll enable the Inspectorate to become more responsive and proactive in the fast-changing environment of fire and security certification.

“I believe that the ever-changing threat, advancing technology and the advent of new regulatory requirements all combine to make it essential that we adapt to what is in effect a changed paradigm.”

Little continued: “The NSI has invested in training a new breed of auditor for the fire risk assessment market and hope to lead the field in this area. Audits for Health and Safety, environmental management, aviation and maritime security as well as information security management systems are included in the updated portfolio of capabilities.”

He added: “While our core business remains fully focused on our traditional centres of excellence, we must respond to our approved companies and seek a more joined-up and integrated audit regime.”

The restructuring at the NSI – which recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary – sees the departure of both Paul Bigland and Ian Sanderson (director of standards and certification and former leader of the ISI) from the senior management team.

Sanderson, of course, played a pivotal role in the formation of the NSI as we know it today.
