UKAS supports NSI on environmental scheme

The Inspectorate is now the only sector-specific Accredited Certification Body that’s able to provide EMS certification to those companies operating in the security and fire industries.

The EMS Scheme is generally being targeted at NSI Gold-approved companies who already possess Quality Management System approval. It will be of particular interest to those organisations working towards an integrated management system that addresses quality, environmental and Health and Safety requirements.

There’s now an increasing trend for companies to strive for continual improvement in their environmental performance. By gaining EMS certification through the NSI, companies are able to fully satisfy the requirements of BS EN ISO 14001, show that they have a robust system of identifying all applicable environmental legislation, evaluate its relevance to their company and verify compliance on an ongoing basis.

Of all the UKAS Management Systems accreditations, EMS is by far the most challenging to achieve.

Tony Weeks – technical manager for the NSI – has been presented with the British Security Industry Association’s (BSIA) Chairman’s Award for his Contribution to Standards. The presentation was made to Tony by BSIA chairman Adam Wiseberg at the London Hilton.

This is due recognition for Tony’s outstanding commitment to developing and raising standards in the electronic security arena, as well as his continued involvement in numerous committees to ensure that all standards are as clear as possible and far less likely to be misinterpreted by installers.
