The publication examines why clients should use a reputable information destruction company, how they might select such an organisation, the importance of comprehensive data destruction and details of the British Standard (BS 8470) applicable to the ‘discipline’.
The Association’s Information Destruction Section has also recently introduced its own Code of Ethics and Environmental Responsibilities.
The Code has been prepared to safeguard the interests of customers by urging specialist companies to maintain a high standard of customer service and benefits.
It also governs areas that affect the users of an information destruction service. For example, the Code dictates that information destruction service providers will honour all service guarantees given and, should a service prove unsatisfactory, the complaints procedure then allows the customer to apply for assistance from the BSIA.
The Code also requires that members review all aspects of their business in relation to the way in which it affects the environment.
