Suite success

Access control specialist TDSi is to showcase its latest suite of products at IFSEC in May. One product of note is PalmGarde, a dedicated physical access control reader incorporating PalmSecure technology from Fujitsu.

Working on near-infrared light, PalmGarde reads and processes the vein pattern in the palm of the hand. Established in the womb, this pattern remains unchanged through a person’s life – unlike fingerprints, which change through childhood and can be prone to damage and distortion. PalmGarde delivers a robust and reliable biometric technology, and since no contact with the actual sensor is required, offers a hygienic, user-friendly solution appropriate for any public area; particularly those within a healthcare environment.

Visitors to the TDSi stand will also see version 2.1 of eXguard PRO, the company’s most recent software release. Providing a fully integrated, PC-based access management application, eXguard PRO is capable of supporting up to 128 doors in its standard form, with an unlimited door license also available.

Recent enhancements to the software have seen eXguard PRO’s functionality expanded with additional options for industry-leading biometric readers and CCTV DVRs. In particular, it is now able to support full integration with the popular Dedicated Micros Digital Sprite 2 DVR.

IP developments

IndigoVision will be demonstrating a number of new products and enhancements for its complete IP Video solution. These will include the 9000 series of IP Video products supporting H.264 and an Internet Streaming Server.

The 9000 range includes updated versions of products currently available in the 8000 range: transmitters, IP domes and Networked Video Recorders. The new range provides the same high quality, low-latency video that has been consistently delivered by 8000 MPEG-4 based systems but with a reduction of up to 50 per cent in bandwidth and storage requirement – or to put it another way, 9000 based systems can deliver significantly higher video quality for the same bandwidth. IndigoVision partners can therefore deploy a complete end-to-end IP Video solution based on the latest H.264 compression technology.

The Internet Streaming Server software plug-in allows a standard web server to stream live video over the Internet from any camera in an IndigoVision solution. Developed following customer demand, this feature has many useful applications, for example delivering traffic camera feeds for local news websites. The plug-in is simply installed onto a PC web server that is connected directly to the IP video network.

Megapixel debut

Avigilon will be introducing its 16 megapixel performance surveillance cameras, specifically designed for applications where detail needs to be captured over a wide field of view. Avigilon says they are the first surveillance cameras that can continuously monitor large fields of view while maintaining high levels of detail. “Up until now, security professionals relied on opto-mechanical PTZ cameras for wide field of view surveillance,” the company says. “One of the severe limitations of conventional PTZ cameras is that operators were forced to make a trade-off between field of view and image detail, leaving crucial areas unmonitored when zooming in to get a closer look at a specific area. Our cameras provide a superior solution for post incident investigation because they provide detailed images while still maintaining surveillance of the entire field of view.”

Technology on demand

Samsung Techwin will be dedicating a large part of its IFSEC stand to interactive demonstrations areas where visitors can fully test the latest advances in CCTV technology.

“We believe the best way for us to excite customers about the benefits of our SSNR technology is to provide ‘hands-on’ demonstrations,” says David Hammond, Samsung Techwin’s European sales manager.

SSNR, Samsung’s Super Noise Reduction technology, by eliminating high levels of noise created when lighting levels are low, makes images cleaner and sharper without creating ghosting or motion blur. Independent tests have shown that colour images with SSNR applied stay sharp and clean, even after colour information is lost due to a lack of light.

Hammond says: “The big bonus offered by SSNR is that when using MPEG-4 compression, file sizes are reduced by 70 per cent. This provides the choice of recording up to three times more or if a CCTV system is networked, a much faster update speed.”

Terrier selection

Terrier SC has been selected by Initsys to supply its high security alarm signalling products. Operating Europe-wide through its Verified Alarms Network, Initsys coordinates alarm system signals with the images from CCTV cameras. A core benefit is that security monitoring centres can verify alarm situations from many sites irrespective of makes of IP camera installed, Terrier says.

“They have chosen – and own branded – the Terrier SC communicators to extend the options available to their clients, offering secure low cost alarm signalling over the internet. The Terrier SC communicators integrate easily within existing alarm panels enabling secure, low cost signalling over existing broadband connections.

“Old-style security systems offer limited information and flexibility. Compare that with the speed and functionality of IP CCTV cameras and IP alarm signalling. And above all, with data charges on broadband so much lower than older technologies, system running costs are dramatically cut.”
