The company says that with the 21CN IP system network upgrade, some older social alarm equipment/protocols may not function reliably, particularly if they are dependent upon specific transmission time delays across the network.
To solve this, Pyronix and Castle Care-Tech, subsidiaries of Secure Holdings, have developed communications modules to retro-fit onto existing security systems.
This will ensure compatibility with IP networks and “future-proof” installations.
ADI Gardiner will be distributing the new Pyronix Telemetry Communications Device (TCD) and Castle’s SmartCom IP TCD signalling modules.
The Pyronix TCD is a ‘plug and play’ module which connects an existing alarm panel to Emizon 21, a secure, managed messaging service designed specifically for IP networks. Fully 21CN compliant, the system has dual path signalling using broadband as the primary fixed communications path and GPRS as the secondary path for wireless IP networks.
Castle Care-Tech’s SmartCom IP TCD also works via Emizon 21 to secure the message delivery rather than the various paths the message travels over.
SmartCom uses 11 alarm inputs plus tamper alert and AC fail and offers path signalling via IP and GPRS.
No programming or on-site configuration is needed, making it simpler for the installer.
ADI says modules are not site specific and work with broadband from any service provider. Customers can also use their existing lines without incurring call-out charges.
Julie Hartley, intruder product manager at ADI-Gardiner, said they were providing installers with a “viable and cost effective solution to ensure existing intruder systems will continue to work following the introduction of 21CN.
“21N is BT’s GB pound 10billion network upgrade and sees the migration to end-to-end IP-based networks as well as the replacement of 6,000 telephone exchanges with IP switches over a five year period following completion of the initial roll-out in Cardiff.”
Julie Kenny, managing director, Pyronix said: “Traditional signalling alarms were designed for use with analogue networks and nobody really knows just how much the switch to 21CN will impact on existing alarm installations.
“Through the development of products such as these, we are working to ensure our customers have access to solutions that future-proof their security systems.”
Both products are compliant to EN 50131-1 requirements for intrusion and hold-up alarm systems.
* ADI-Gardiner has re-branded to simply ADI as part of its global commitment strategy to support customers. The new global identity will bring together all its businesses across the globe under one unified brand.
The identity includes a new global logo which replaces the straight lines of the previous mark with a stylized arrow that represents momentum and forward motion, a key theme for the company in 2009.
