BSIA publishes data destruction code

Information Destruction Section chairman Anthony Pearlgood said the code will reassure customers that BSIA member companies are committed to maintaining high standards.

“With identity fraud rising, many problems can occur if sensitive information is not disposed of responsibly and destroyed effectively,” he said.

“BSIA members will shred confidential material ensuring the customer’s responsibilities under the Data Protection Act are met.”

The BSIA’s Information Destruction Section comprises 25 companies that are responsible for destroying confidential information stored in a variety of ways, including on DVDs and computer hard drives. They also dispose of other items that could be used to defraud businesses, including branded products and uniforms.
