The Code of Ethics, which each member has pledged to uphold, outlines the Training Providers’ Section’s commitment to Best Practice in maintaining a high standard of customer service.
Safeguarding the interests of consumers is a core aim of this pledge, and BSIA Section members have agreed to promote their services, guarantees and warranties in a legal, decent, honest and fair manner to ensure customers are fully informed at all stages of the training process.
Paul Tennent, chairman of the BSIA Training Providers Section, commented: “As a newly-formed BSIA Section we’re extremely ambitious in our objectives and fully committed to increasing professionalism within our sector and improving the standard of training offered.”
Tennent continued: “Many customers procure their training services under the impression that the mandatory training undertaken to gain a Security Industry Authority license meets the industry’s needs. However, further training is often required to ensure that security officers can carry out the wide range of duties expected of them in both a knowledgeable and professional manner.”
The launch of the BSIA Training Providers Section’s Code of Ethics provides an additional quality differentiator for members within the section, offering customers the necessary reassurances that they adhere to British Codes of Advertising and Sales Promotion and will honour all guarantees and warranties.
Copies of the Code of Ethics are available free of charge to BSIA members, customers, local consumer organisations and others with a legitimate interest.
Members of the BSIA’s Training Providers Section specialise in all types of training, from CCTV training through to conflict management, risk management and much more. To find out more about the BSIA’s Training Providers Section visit the dedicated pages of the Trade Association’s website
IFSEC International 2012: ‘Meet The Buyers’ enjoys sixth successful year
The first day of IFSEC International saw the return of the successful ‘Meet The Buyers’ event, organised by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) in partnership with the UK Trade and Investment Defence and Security Organisation (UKTI DSO), IFSEC organiser United Business Media and the International Trade Promotion Centre.
Despite the economic pressures faced by many companies across the globe, this annual ‘speed networking’ event remains ever-popular, with this year’s impressive attendance demonstrating that the event has become a firm favourite in the international security calendar.
With 20-minute introductory meetings arranged in advance, Meet The Buyers welcomes a range of security procurement specialists from a diverse selection of countries (which this year included Brazil, Colombia, Croatia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Nigeria).
Over the years, Meet The Buyers has achieved impressive results, introducing UK businesses to over 1,400 overseas buyers and resulting in almost GB pound 10 million worth of predicted sales.
On the day at the NEC in Birmimgham, Trade and Investment officers from foreign Embassies and Consulates were also on hand to impart their expert knowledge and advice for those UK companies looking to break into overseas markets and expand their business.
If you’re exhibiting at IFSEC International next year and want to get involved in Meet The Buyers, contact Caroline Strickley at the BSIA via e-mail for more details: c.strickley@bsia.co.uk
BSIA: networking and education at IFSEC 2012
Relationship building, education and technical updates were key elements for the BSIA at IFSEC International 2012, with many members of Association staff taking part in this year’s new education initiatives including IFSEC Centre Stage (which expanded upon the traditional conference format to make educational seminars more accessible and tailored more specifically to delegates’ needs).
Particularly relevant this summer is the forthcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games, which provides a unique opportunity for the UK’s security industry to showcase its range of talent and innovation. David Evans, the BSIA’s Project Director for 2012, gave two presentations at IFSEC International 2012 focusing on the impact of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games on the security industry.
For the technically-minded, the imminent changeover from old to new versions of the PD6662 scheme is a key issue affecting manufacturers and installers of intruder and hold-up alarm systems, and duly formed the basis of a series of drop-in surgeries taking place on the BSIA’s Stand throughout the duration of the show.
To spread this message even further, the BSIA’s technical manager David Wilkinson delivered a series of seminars in Hall 5 explaining the differences between the old scheme and the new, and providing last-minute advice to installers still unsure as to how the changeover will affect them.
Lone Worker Pavilion at IFSEC International 2012
Finally, the introduction of a dedicated Lone Worker Pavilion in Hall 3a at this year’s IFSEC provided a valuable opportunity for the BSIA’s Lone Worker Steering Group to promote their products and services in a specialist setting.
With more than six million people in the UK working alone or without direct supervision, it’s essential for employers to understand their responsibilities and get to grips with the many products and service solutions available.
To provide an insight into the importance of BS 8484 – the standard applying to lone worker systems – the BSIA’s technical director Alex Carmichael delivered two presentations in IFSEC’s dedicated Lone Worker Education Theatre on Monday 14th and Thursday 17th May, at 10.45 am and 12.30 pm respectively.
Words of support from the BSIA’s CEO
James Kelly, CEO at the BSIA, is a keen supporter of IFSEC International. He commented: “Attending IFSEC International is a natural synergy for the BSIA as the Trade Association represents over 70% of this vibrant, diverse industry.”
He continued: “For the BSIA, IFSEC International provides a unique opportunity for us to engage with our three main target audiences – existing Association members, potential members and end users – all at once. As an annual focal point for our industry, IFSEC International and the IFSEC Security Industry Awards – which the BSIA is also proud to support – enable us to join together in celebrating our industry’s diversity and capability.”
