Crimestoppers helps fight corporate crime

The Integrity Line allows employees to pass on information anonymously via a secure, encrypted online form or by calling the Integrity Line (which is answered by Crimestoppers call handlers).

Employees can use the Integrity Line to tackle suspected cases of internal fraud, theft, bullying, substance abuse or misuse, discrimination, Health and Safety abuses, harassment and corruption.

Information that’s passed to Crimestoppers regarding criminal activity and breaches in company standards is then sent securely to either the company’s Human Resources Department or the in-house security manager.

Current clients include law enforcement agencies, banks and wholesale groups.

Client protection of company reputation

Managed by a team of dedicated staff within Crimestoppers’ 24/7 Call Centre, the Integrity Line has an exclusive 0800 telephone number that can be generated for each company. With this service, clients can potentially save great expense and protect their reputation. One client was able to recover over GB pound 400,000 from just one telephone call.

Commenting on this new initiative, Dave Cording – Crimestoppers’ director of operations – told SMT Online: “The introduction of the Integrity Line web site further pushes the boundaries of Crimestoppers’ work, allowing yet another route for people to pass on information about crimes anonymously.”

Cording continued: “Unfortunately, with the ever-deepening recession, it’s highly likely that crime will increase. Given that nowadays people spend so much of their time at work, we should all strive to make it a safer and more pleasant environment.”

The Integrity Line is already showing signs of success. This year alone, Crimestoppers has received 58 actionable reports which were passed to organisations.

Integrity Line launch in the Caribbean

In January 2009, the Integrity Line was also launched in Jamaica by the Jamaica Constabulary Force and Jamaica Customs. Here, it’s designed as an anti-corruption line, in response to the growing public concern about high levels of corruption.

The service is available to the general public in Jamaica. Individuals are urged to call 1 800 CORRUPT to pass information direct to the Crimestoppers’ UK Integrity Line.

In the first two weeks of full-time operation, 12 actionable pieces of information were sent to the newly formed Anti-Corruption Unit.

89,000 arrests and charges since 1988

Crimestoppers is an independent charity dedicated to solving crimes and taking criminals off the streets. Around 17 people are arrested and charged every day as a result of information forwarded to the organisation.

Since Crimestoppers began in 1988, it has received over one million actionable calls, resulting in over 89,000 arrests and charges. Over GB pound 105 million worth of property has been recovered, and nearly GB pound 165 million worth of drugs.
