D-TECT Laser from GJD helps to slash insurance claims for metal theft by 65%

D-TECT-LZR-001COChurches are increasingly installing GJD’S detection devices – now including the D-TECT Laser – to guard against the growing threat of lead and copper theft.

Attracted by its unrivalled accuracy, low false-alarm rate and preventative effect – GJD detectors detect and deter intruders before any damage is caused – Over 500 churches and other heritage sites already benefit from using GJD detectors providing 24-hour vigilance with more sites installing systems each week.

The D-TECT Laser is in the vanguard of detect-and-deter technologies and it is hoped that it will help to further reduce insurance claims for church-roof metal theft.

GJD’s technology even provided an effective solution for a heritage site whose awkward position left it vulnerable to false alarms. Situated on the foot of a slope, the Oxford University building’s roof was so low in relation to the adjacent public road that innocent passers-by could trigger a traditional detector just by walking past.

Unlike more scattergun technologies the laser, which is configurable into two precise detection zones, could be configured to cover a specific area of the roof, out of reach of passing pedestrians.

The four-layer laser scanner, which can detect or ignore objects at mm-range accuracy and boasts a remission factor of just 2%, has two highly accurate configurable detection zones.

Following the alliance between GJD and E-Bound the results speak for themselves:-recent figures released from Ecclesiastical recorded more than 930 metal theft claims in 2012, in contrast to 2,600 in 2011. In monetary terms the cost of claims fell from £4.5m in 2011 to £1.8m in 2012, representing a 65% reduction drop in claims since security detectors have been fitted on churches.

Mark Tibbenham, managing director at GJD Manufacturing, said: “The benefits of our partnership with E-Bound are twofold: not only are our security detectors a deterrent to intruders, preventing a crime before it has happened, but the protection of our heritage in the future is what is really important”.
