1700 Hyderabad schools don’t comply with fire safety standards

More than 1,700 schools in one urban area of India have yet to comply with fire safety standards.

According to the Times of India, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has started sending notices to the schools, giving them until 15 September to comply.

The fire prevention wing of the municipality is concentrating on 350 schools with over 500 pupils each, and a second set of notices have been issued giving them one month to comply with fire safety measures, said an official.

Schools still not complying will be listed on the municipality’s website and would be open to enforcement action.
