Around 40 firefighters battled a blaze at a metal recycling plant in Nechells, Birmingham.
Crews were called just before 9 am on 10 August to Hawkswood Metal Recycling Plant.
The fire, which burned for over 24 hours, involved approximately 1,000 tonnes of scrap metal in a commercial loading bay which itself contained 2,000 tonnes of scrap metal and light iron.
Using water relay from a nearby canal, crews fought the blaze with two hydraulic platforms and high-volume pumping unit. The stop message came in just after 1 pm the next day, with crews remaining on-site for some time checking hot spots.
Chief fire officer, Vij Randeniya, said the incident was not connected to rioting in the city.
“We are eager to reassure those who live in, work or are visiting the area that this incident is in no way connected to the recent disturbances.
“This is very much ‘business as usual’ for my firefighters, who are making good progress in tackling what could be a protracted incident.”
The building is now set to be demolished.
