The news follows recognition of the firm’s major commitment to help the environment and reduce the environmental impact of its processes.
After passing stage one of the standard in November, Axis was audited for the second (and final) stage of the accreditation in January.
ISO 14001 is the international management standard for the environment, providing businesses with a structured process for making environmental improvements.
The standard specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy, determining environmental aspects and impacts of products/activities/services, planning environmental objectives and measurable targets, the implementation and operation of programmes to meet objectives and targets, checking and corrective action and management reviews.
Sustainable, efficient and effective practices
Achieving this standard acknowledges the long-term pledge made by Axis’ management team to implement sustainable, efficient and effective business practices.
Jonathan Levine – the company’s managing director – told SMT Online: “We’re delighted to have been awarded the standard. Axis recognises that the long-term viability of our business is dependent on sustainable operations and those that drive efficient resource use and provide a healthy environment. In turn, this facilitates social progress and economic growth.”
Levine added: “As a company, we therefore strive to act as responsible stewards of the environment and commit to continual improvement. It’s a great boost to have these objectives officially recognised by an independent body.”
For the contractor and its client base
Although the procedures under this standard emanate from Axis’ headquarters, the company is working hard to ensure that they are read and put into practice wherever possible at its customers’ premises, and that it works hand in hand with its clients for the common good.
