The company overcame security challenges such as 24-hour supermarket shopping and parking at large covered and uncovered car parks, plus a bus station next door, to complete the GB pound 500,000-plus total package.
Security includes CCTV, access control and intruder alarm systems, a site wide retailer intercom system, a network of Help Points plus a parallel security system at the ASDA supermarket integrated into the centre.
The consultant’s brief relied heavily on fully functional cameras in highly populated areas. But, by working with the consultant and prospective centre management team, CBES used fixed, high resolution cameras in critical areas, while still giving total perimeter and shopping mall coverage by PTZs.
The resultant 80 camera system has roughly a 70/30 split in favour of statics.
CBES used Norbain and American Dynamics-supplied equipment for recording, matrix and PTZ cameras.
The company said it chose 1.6Tbyte Intellex Ultra’s because compression algorithms offered the highest recording rates available at real time, while still giving more than 31 days recording. The AD1024 Matrix gave levels of expandability and functionality over and above the consultant’s requirements and interfaced directly with the bank of DVRs.
CBES chose Intech Furniture to help design the security room furniture and monitor wall of 14 x 19 inch and 1 x 42 inch screens.
It is ready to be networked into Folkestone Town Council’s system on completion of their new control facility and also offers viewing rights to NCP for car park cameras.
NVT multi-core cable breaks the extensive site into usable zones with distribution hubs at specific areas. Feeding cameras from the hubs via UTP cable kept the costs down and the wiring schedule simple, said the company.
CBES business development manager, Dave Lister, said: “The key to our success with Folkestone has been attention to detail and delivery.
“We have been with the project team every step of the way, no meeting missed and continuous updates on our progress.
“In a project this size the ‘powers that be’ want contractors who take ownership of their packages end-to-end, not losing interest the minute an order is placed. I can say with confidence that delivering a project of this nature on time and in budget is the best sales job any person in my position can do.”
Paul Skinns, Senior M&E co-ordinator for main contractor, HBG said: “It’s very rare to find a company that consistently responds to demands placed upon it when deadlines get tight! Dave and CBES delivered just that”.
