CCTV: Belgian footballer drives car into convenience store

Belgian international footballer Jonathon Legear is facing a possible jail sentence after being caught on CCTV driving his Porsche into a petrol station shop.

Surveillance video shows Legear driving past petrol pumps, knocking a scooter over and then careering into the shop.

He has apparently denied that he was “significantly” above the drink drive limit.

The incident happened in the Belgian town of Tongeren, a long way from the footballer’s Russian Premier League club in Grozny.

One man was injured – mostly cuts and scrapes and a badly twisted ankle – as he was unable to move out of the way of the vehicle. The man was able to jump high enough to avoid serious injury, however.

A court spokesman said that Legear would be charged with involuntary assault and possible intoxication. He will be allowed to return to Grozny, “as long as he does not drive there himself,” writes the Telegraph.
