CCTV video shows thief hold up shop with a coffee

New Year’s Day – often a time for a brisk walk, maybe a shopping spree or indeed a day spent nursing a hangover.

This thief, caught on CCTV, went for a combination of all three however as he took his black coffee with him to steal thousands of pounds worth of cigarettes on New Year’s Day morning.

The images of the casual masked thief brandishing a mug of coffee in a newsagent’s in Manchester show the robber, who was with another man, coolly demanding the cashier to hand over tobacco and GB pound 400 cash.

The two men then calmly leave the shop carrying four bin bags of swag, the hooded and masked robber still carrying his coffee.

The CCTV images were released last month by Greater Manchester Police and shown on the BBC’s Crimewatch programme.

Detective Constable Matthew Farrell, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “These two offenders are clearly nonchalant in their attitude to this crime: one has made no attempt to conceal his face and the other is casually carrying round a hot drink.”
