CDS completes £500,000 CCTV system

The GB pound 500,000 crime prevention and traffic management system for Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council was designed by consultants, Redvers Hocken Associates.

It includes the integration of more than 100 existing cameras within Neath and Port Talbot town centres plus the integration of a further 50 cameras and a state of the art CCTV control room.

CDS won the contract against strong tendering competition from companies throughout Europe.

PTZ cameras feed via fibre optic cable and central servers into 52 monitors in the control rooms where real-time watermarked images are stored, and archived as potential evidence.

One of the challenges within the contract was a minimum of downtime in the control room relocation from the old analogue VHS system to the digital system.

CDS managed the complex changeover within seven days.

Councillor Arwyn Woolcock described the system as a “major step forward in CCTV technology” and MD of CDS, Simon Moon, said it was “a testament to the quality, expertise and knowledge we have in abundance.”

He started CDS (Computerised & Digital Security Systems Ltd) 20 years ago as an independent family business. Over the years it has secured CCTV contracts from 54 local authorities throughout the UK, including the City & County of Swansea, Bridgend CBC and The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.

The company has also designed and installed systems for Egg Banking, Prudential PLC, St David’s Shopping Centre, Glamorgan and Bath Universities and the National Assembly for Wales.

Moon said the company’s independence meant it was “not tied to any manufacturers or other security service providers” so was able to make objective recommendations when choosing services and equipment.
