This is the second major project secured by Chubb – part of UTC Fire and Security – in the city in as many months.
The system has been designed to protect both the inside and outside of the new Exchange Quay 2 Metro complex. High-technology detectors with low false alarm rates secure the car park, complemented by cameras in vandal-resistant domes. Images from all internal and external cameras are recorded and monitored on site. Access to the building is controlled by video intercom.
Exchange Quay 2 Metro has won awards for its environmental credentials. It was recognised for its high BREEAM (Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method) rating. That method helps firms understand and mitigate the environmental impacts of developments they design and build.
Security and fire alarms in tandem
For its part, Chubb carried out both the fire alarm and security installations as one company using a single point of contact.
Speaking about the project, NG Bailey’s project manager Ian Ringland explained: “We had to work to a tight schedule agreed with the builder that only allowed limited access to particular areas at specific times. This engendered careful planning, and communication was therefore key. Chubb demonstrated that it was equal to the challenge, and excelled throughout.”
NG Bailey is among the UK’s leading providers of building services, mechanical, electrical, ICT, off-site manufacture, interiors, systems integration and maintenance solutions.
It was Chubb’s ability to problem-solve and its focus on customer service that would make Ringland recommend the company for future projects. “The effort Chubb put in to ensure the building was handed over on time was fantastic, and they continue to provide support with client training. They definitely went the extra mile.”
Three Piccadilly Place
Last October, Chubb completed a similar fire and security installation at Three Piccadilly Place, which is described as one of the largest office blocks ever to be built in the UK.
UTC Fire and Security is the $6 billion provider of fire safety and security solutions to more than one million customers worldwide. Headquartered in Connecticut, it’s a business unit of the United Technologies Corporation which provides high technology products and services to the building and aerospace industries worldwide.
