CleanSeal finds growing market

[

Carmtec AB reports that specialist UK sprinkler and pipe work installers working in laboratory, cleanroom and food processing environments are turning increasingly to using CleanSeal.

The unit is used as a safeguard against any problems of air leakage and contamination where pipes and lead-throughs penetrate walls and ceilings.

Claimed to be quick and easy to fit, the high performance CleanSeal unit has an EPDM membrane, set firmly in between its two stainless steel discs, providing a durable and airtight seal around the sprinkler pipe.

Said to be able to withstand high-pressure cleaning and all cleaning agents used in cleanrooms, laboratories and food processing plants, the CleanSeal also absorbs vibration and allows significant pipe movement, without any loss of seal performance.

The CleanSeal is normally retrofitted to sprinklers, where the EPDM rubber provides a secure fit around the sprinkler feeder pipe, thus preventing any condensation or other air leakage problems. This applies to both new build and upgrades of existing facilities.

Recent sprinkler applications include one by Wormald Fire Systems, a sprinkler installation at a large Merck Sharp and Dohme pharmaceutical research and development facility in England. Another was by Argus Fire, which installed a series of CleanSeals at Queen Mary’s University School of Dentistry in conjunction with the sprinkler being installed in the Category 3 laboratories due for completion in early 2005.

The patented CleanSeals come in a variety of shapes and sizes. There are 12 standard CleanSeal sizes for circular ducts, plus one size for square ducting. Non standard sizes are made as specials in 2-3 weeks. Similarly, rectangular CleanSeals are made to order and the largest ones produced to date measure 2000 mm x 2000 mm. CleanSeal multi-duct plates can also be supplied for specific applications.
