Cornwall hotel destroyed in huge fire -VIDEO

More than 100 firefighters have been tackling a fierce blaze at the Best Western Falmouth Beach Resort hotel as gale force winds fanned the flames.

The fire started just after midday yesterday at the 120-bedroom hotel and around 30 guests and staff evacuated the hotel. Fire crews arrived to find a fire on the third floor at the rear of the premises and an aerial ladder platform from Truro was requested. As the fire spread rapidly across the roof area and the third floor, four further appliances and another aerial ladder platform was requested.

A nearby hotel was also evacuated as a precaution.

Further firefighting resources were requested including a high volume pump and a helicopter for aerial reconnaissance.

Firefighting operations continued into the night, followed by damping down and monitoring of hot spots which are continuing this morning.
