Although specified by Broxbourne Council’s community safety team to catch people throwing stones at vehicles, the hidden cameras eventually filmed youths vandalising a dummy camera.
The covert cameras were so well disguised the youths could not tell they were being filmed – even when staring at the lens from just six inches away.
The ploy worked successfully as the youths, suspected of other vandalism in the town, missed the covert devices and set about tearing the dummy ploy camera off the wall before attempting to destroy it.
VIT even used ‘other techniques’ to prevent the dummy camera from being destroyed too quickly so that plenty of evidential video could be filmed.
The ultra low light covert cameras provided the footage that eventually led to the youths’ prosecution.
