Crimefighting heads to the gents

The Ship of Fools and The Skylark in Croydon have defended their use of cameras in the male toilets, which they say is already cutting down on the number of problems.

Eddie Gershon, who deals with the company’s PR, told info4security that all of the installations have been completed at the request of the individual bars or on the advice of the local constabularies.

“We make it clear that you can’t see anything, as such”, he added.

Gershon also told us that the footage is only looked at retrospectively in the event of an incident in the toilets. However, he was unable to be clear as to whether signs specifically warning of the cameras in the toilets were in place.

“All JD Wetherspoons bars have CCTV inside and out”, Gershon said, “which is for good reason”.

A duty manager at The Ship of Fools told us that ‘no one has any problems with the new system’, which was installed by Secom. “It is for everyone’s safety”, he said.

Nobody was available from Secom to tell us specific details about the installations.
