The system is monitored at the headquarters of the Islands’ 55 primary care centres. A NetiP system was installed in each of the medical centres, each of which transmits images over an existing private IP network. Four miniature D-Cam cameras, which combine a camera, PIR detector and microphone, are installed in each building.
During opening hours, the control centre does a routine virtual guard tour of all the medical centres. After hours, the images and audio, which are triggered by the cameras’ PIR sensors, are transmitted to the central control room.
According to Rajiv Wadhwani, ceo of Viratel, sole distributors for Video Domain in the Canary Islands, the health centre administration wanted a cost-effective yet efficient solution. Previously, security officers were used to guard the medical centres, sometimes on a 24-hour basis.
