Sixty firefighters tackled a blaze which is believed to have started in a storage area in the roof of a block of flats in south London.
Around 60 people evacuated the building in Thornton Heath before fire crews, who were called out just before 4.00pm yesterday, arrived at the scene. The fire was under control by around 7.30pm but the roof was severely damaged.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
