The National Office is located in Glasgow, and forms part of Edexcel’s Celtic Nations Division encompassing Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
The office has been established to provide local, easily accessible guidance and support for those organisations in Scotland currently using Edexcel’s qualifications and services.
Edexcel remains the UK’s largest awarding body, offering academic and vocational qualifications and testing to schools, colleges, employers and other places of learning both in the UK and overseas.
Edexcel’s key role is to engage with employers, training providers and Further Education colleges, all the while promoting its qualifications and services. The organisation’s representatives are always keen to meet with employers and training providers in order to identify how they can support them in reaching their goals, and enhance what they deliver to the customer base.
Dick, Curran and Weir take on the challenge
The team in Scotland comprises national manager John Dick, Veronica Curran and Mary Weir, all of whom have spent many years working in the learning and development sector. Most recently, all three served Awards UK – Edexcel’s joint venture with the SQA for work-based learning which closed at the end of March.
They now join Edexcel’s UK Education, Sales and Training Division. Primarily, the team members will be involved in developing and implementing a sales strategy for the Celtic Nations.
Investment in learning and development
John Dick told SMT Online: “More and more employers are seeing the benefits of recognising the skills of their people. Given the current economic climate, those same employers are scrutinising their investment in learning and development more than ever, and asking what they’re getting for their money.”
Dick continued: “These days, employers are demanding more than an end of course evaluation or ‘happy sheet’. We have a range of qualifications which are being used to measure individual performance in the workplace. In turn, this can be used to measure the business impact from any investment in learning and development.”
