Emergency lighting installation scheme launched

[

A new approval scheme for installers of emergency lighting – said to complement existing certification of fire alarm and electrical installation companies – has been launched by BSI Product Services.

The scheme aims to provide reassurance to customers that approved installation firms comply with the latest guidelines on emergency lighting, including BS 5266 parts 1, 7, 8 and 10; general Kitemark scheme criteria; and that they can consistently deliver work of the highest quality.

Like the fire alarm installers scheme, it adopts a modular format that allows companies to apply for certification in any or all of the areas of design, installation, inspection, as well as testing and maintenance. This means that installers are free to match their certification with their own particular areas of expertise.
Qualification criteria also include an annual assessment by BSI inspectors, which includes an evaluation of work carried out on site.

BSI says the scheme provides installation companies with an opportunity to increase their business among companies and individuals seeking the assurance of independent third party certification. Scheme holders are entitled to display the Kitemark symbol and their details are listed on the Kitemark website.
