Eurotunnel, which operates the famous transport link, described the EX82 Integrated Day Night cameras as “rugged and reliable”.
“Extreme CCTV cameras have provided Eurotunnel with uninterrupted underground images for over five years now,” said Richard Howkins, from the company’s maintenance and signalling department.
“Due to the location of the cameras, it is important to us that this equipment is relatively low maintenance and is both rugged and reliable.”
At 50km long, with a 37.8km stretch running beneath the English Channel, the Channel Tunnel is the world’s longest underwater tunnel.
“The camera has done a fantastic job to last five years without incident in such a difficult environment and is a testament to our build quality and design,” said Extreme CCTV’s Ian Crosby.
The EX82 combines camera, lens and infrared in a single, all-weather housing. Recently upgraded to incorporate Extreme’s Black Diamond infrared technology and now known as an EX82 Infrared Imager, it is said to deliver even crisper, high resolution images at night-time.
Extreme CCTV will be demonstrating its full Infrared Imager camera range – including new IP versions – in Hall 20 at IFSEC 2008.
