A firefighter’s narrow escape from a collapsing building has been captured on CCTV.
In September last year, an unnamed firefighter from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was just seconds away from being caught by falling debris from a derelict building. His near-miss was captured by a camera fixed to a fire appliance that was travelling towards the building.
Speaking to Sky News at the time, fire chief Steve McGuirk said: "Our crew and the police are diligently attending this incident, where a derelict property is on fire.
"But who could have predicted the front of the house would collapse in this way? It is frighteningly close and this firefighter could so easily have been killed.
"It’s a powerful example of how our firefighters put themselves at risk each and every day to keep people across Greater Manchester safe."
The footage has come to light because it is being used as part of staff safety training by fire and rescue services across the UK.
