G4S Cash Solutions secures Northern Rail contract win

The contract, which begins next month, will see G4S provide a range of services including Cash-in-Transit, cash processing, bulk cash delivery and cash collection from ticket vending and car park machines.

To help Northern Rail speed up its reporting processes, G4S will conduct cash processing from one site in Manchester which will help the client to manage its cash flow even more effectively.

Brett Gibson, business development manager at G4S Cash Solutions (UK), said: “We are looking forward to working closely with Northern Rail to help them manage their cash processes more efficiently. We have a strong track record of working with organisations of all sizes across the UK to deliver a high quality service that adds real value to businesses.”

Albert Gribben, who looks after procurement management systems at Northern Rail, commented: “As one of the UK’s largest train operators, it’s vital that we ensure all of our operations run smoothly so that the millions of passengers who use our service every year have an enjoyable experience.”

Biggest train operator in Britain

Northern Rail is the biggest train operator in Britain, providing 2,500 local and regional train services every day across the north of England and serving a population of nearly 15 million.

The company now carres 88 million passengers every year, 38% more than when the franchise began in December 2004.

Northern Rail is operated in a joint venture by Serco and Abellio. This joint venture combines Serco’s world class service credentials and Abellio’s unrivalled transport industry expertise.

Serco has run the highly successful Docklands Light Railway since 1997 while Abellio delivers bus and rail services to over 650,000 passengers in the UK, Germany and the Czech Republic every day.

In addition to Northern Rail, Serco and Abellio have the 25-year concession for Merseyrail which provides urban train services in Merseyside.

Gribben concluded: “Working with G4S Cash Solutions will allow us to streamline our cash management processes, freeing up valuable resources which can be better spent on areas such as improved customer service upon which we pride ourselves.”
