Government abandons plans for centre of excellence

[

The government has signalled that it will not be establishing a Centre of Excellence for the fire and rescue service in England for the time being, following feedback it has received from a consultation.

In publishing its responses to the consultation, the communities and local government department said it was clear that fire and rescue authorities in particular are unwilling to commit themselves to the proposal until they are satisfied that concerns – including funding arrangements and the remit of the proposed centre of excellence – are resolved.

The functions planned for early inclusion in a centre of excellence will for the time being be delivered by CLG, local government and the Fire Service College.
