As managing director and principal consultant of The Lyndhurst Consultancy (and a chartered engineer registered with the Engineering Council), Jon Laws assists clients in all sectors of industry and commerce with their surveillance issues both in the UK and on the international stage.
Typically, this work includes the preparation of specifications, carrying out audits of existing systems and project managing new installations.
Laws began his security sector career back in 1987 with Photo-Scan in the role of commissioning engineer, designing and project managing CCTV solutions across the retail and industrial environments. Following this period he moved on to Serco Systems where, from 1990-1994, he worked on surveillance projects in the traffic and transport arena.
Concurrent with his present role, Laws also conducts general CCTV consultancy with SafeGuard Security Consultants and is involved with specialist forensic CCTV analysis in relation to expert witness commitments during litigation procedures.
A member of the Association of Security Consultants and listed on the Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (which is administered by the ICE for the CPNI), Laws is a hugely well respected member of the security community.
Cameras, image displays, recording and transmission
At IFSEC International 2012, one of several speaking engagements sees Laws address the audience in the Next Generation CCTV and Surveillance Theatre on Tuesday 15 May between 1.15 pm and 2.00 pm.
In this instance, Laws will be talking about the future of surveillance, and touching on technical areas involved with cameras, image displays and both recording and transmission solutions.
In this short video interview with Brian Sims (media solutions manager for UBM Live’s Security and Fire Portfolio), Laws focuses on several key areas – among them the potential future for three-dimensional technologies in the CCTV space, the perceived gaps in CCTV training for security professionals and how we can enhance still further the general public’s confidence in surveillance systems.
