I4S video: Visimetrics’ Gary James outlines the FIND solution at IFSEC 2011

“It’s a novel use of video analytics for annotating video in real-time, enabling end users of the system to search for specific objects and features within video as part of a post-recording process.”

That’s how Visimetrics’ business development director Gary James described FIND – the company’s all-new Forensic Investigation Network Database – to me as we chatted about current developments at IFSEC 2011.

“Until now,” continued James, “the only way of knowing whether or not a particular section of video held any use for evidence purposes was for a human being to trawl all the way through the recording. FIND allows end users to carry out searches based on the object type – ie the person or vehicle – with further filtration for colour, logos, parts of vehicle index plates and even the type of luggage that someone might be carrying.”

Massive reductions in video search time

James is upbeat about the fact that FIND will “massively reduce” the time and cost involved in searching for specific details in video footage.

“FIND was created out of a Government-funded R&D project run by the Technology Strategy Board,” James told me, “principally involving Loughborough University and Visimetrics.”

With great confidence in the solution, which took around two years to develop from inception to production, James then eulogised: “I believe this is the most useful system to have been developed since the advent of digital recording across the security sector.”
