IFSEC 2011 exclusive: Mirasys and ObjectVideo to announce patent license agreement

The announcement will take place tomorrow, May 17. Details of ObjectVideo’s current legal action can be read here.

The patent licence agreement will be worldwide, non-exclusive, and royalty-bearing, info4security understands.

Mirasys’ CEO Jukka Riivari said that he feels, in future, VCA functionality will be very important.

“ObjectVideo has a strong portfolio in this area, and this agreement means that our channels and customers are protected in future,” he said.

ObjectVideo’s Raul Fernandez said he valued Mirasys’ proactive engagement and its investments in great software.

“This takes any uncertainty from Mirasys’s end customers,” he said. “They are reassured that they’ll be using VCA that is fully covered and patented, giving them a competitive advantage.”

He said ObjectVideo was keen to grow the patent-licensing part of its business.

Under the agreement, Mirasys will be able to see Network Video Recorders and some video management software that uses functionality covered under ObjectVideo’s patents.

Ed Troha of ObjectVideo said that following the announcement of the company’s legal action against Sony, Bosch and Samsung – which it accuses of selling products with functionality which infringe ObjectVideo’s patents – it had received a number of unsolicited enquiries about licensing from companies around the world.
