IIPSEC: demystify networked security

What are the ‘hot topics’ at IIPSEC 2008? A question many end users, systems integrators, consultants, IT professionals, security advisors and value-added resellers will be asking in advance of this now well-established IP exhibition and attendant seminar programme which, this time around, runs from 29-31 January at Stoneleigh Park near Coventry.

How about joined-up security? Given increasing concerns over workplace safety, theft prevention and potential litigation, today’s security-conscious organisations are implementing integrated, network-based video surveillance and access control projects at an unprecedented rate. The leading solutions vendors will all be in attendance to explain the latest developments to potential clients.

As the cost of bandwidth and storage decreases, so the use of high definition megapixel CCTV systems will increase. IIPSEC is the ideal place for security managers to take a closer look at what that revolution is going to mean in practice. How about analytics, too? Live demonstrations of the technology will show you how it can enhance system functionality on site.

Towards The New Internet

Useful break-out sessions cover The New Internet and Intelligent Buildings. In terms of the former, the current version of the Internet’s operating system – IPv4 – has been in use for almost 30 years now. Its fundamental limitations, alongside the worldwide explosion in Internet use, inhibit ‘net-centric’ operations. IPv6 is designed to overcome these limitations by expanding available IP address space, improving end-to-end security, facilitating mobile communications, enhancing quality of service and easing system management burdens.

Designing and then delivering an integrated security, building and communications solution is the desire of many a company. Certainly, the benefit of delivering truly open and interoperable integration between building management systems and network-based security is now becoming a more financially sound proposition. Today’s managers are demanding ‘intelligent buildings’ that join together proprietary systems and technologies to deliver a ‘seamless’ monitoring solution. At IIPSEC, leading companies will present a number of success stories from high profile installations along with market trends and developments.

There will also be seminars on topics including network video, megapixel technology, IP-based access control solutions, transmission, systems integration and future developments.

The access control solutions seminar should be an interesting one. IP-based designs are increasing in popularity and, alongside the latest biometrics and asset monitoring, can be integrated to provide a full turnkey and management solution. All of the latest biometric trends and RFID technologies will be assessed at the show.

IIPSEC 2008 is also focusing on what’s happening in the major verticals. Retail, transport, the utilities, the education and health sectors, the Government sector and entertainment.
