IndigoVision supply nine German casinos with new digital IP surveillance

The Spielbank casinos are state owned and as such the tendering process was rigorous with a team from the government evaluating IP video systems from all of the major manufacturers through testing and live trials.

Spielbank’s chief organistion manager, Michael Mueller, explained that the choice of IndigoVision was down to their guarantee of zero frame rate drop under any circumstances, and excellent video compression and image quality.

“No other vendor in our trials could match that combination,” said Mr. Mueller.

The new installation will be carried out by Ippi GmbH, an IndigoVision-authorised partner, and will utilise elements of the old analogue system that Spielbank want replacing.

All the original cameras will be reused, and much of the IP network will use power-over-ethernet (PoE), meaning that downtime for the casinos will be kept to a minimum.

Data security

The casinos will use, as a rule, two IndigoVision Windows network video recorder (NVR) servers with a RAID6 SAN system in a dual redundant configuration. Should one of the NVR servers fail, the other will take over.

By using H.264 compression there will be a significant reduction in storage required for data, meaning that in the first of the nine installations control room staff were able to reduce the number of server cabinets from six, down to just two. This offers significant reductions in power needed to cool and operate the server rooms.

Control room staff will additionally make use of the companies Control Center security management software, integrating their panic alarm system into the network and allowing staff to find the cause of an alarm faster and more efficiently.
