Inkerman Group opens German operation

The Inkerman Group’s successful launch event in Germany attracted a large number of high profile companies and industry leaders within the security sector. The event, which was held at the prestigious Steigenberger Petersberg Hotel in Konigswinter, included a number of presentations focusing on issues pertinent to the German marketplace.

As part of the launch, the company also took the opportunity to introduce Jochen Tielke, recently appointed to run the German operation from the Cologne office. Tielke is well-known throughout the security sector in Germany, having previously worked within the industry at a senior level.

Security needs of business

The Inkerman Group was established in 1996 by Gerald Moor, the CEO, in order to meet the specific intelligence and security needs of businesses. The company boasts a full team of qualified professionals in each of the areas in which it operates, and has become a well-respected provider of risk and intelligence services.

The Inkerman Group is international in scope, with the capability to deliver anywhere throughout the world and in rapid response times. Its client base includes multinational corporations, companies, Governments and private individuals for which the company provides the full range of security and intelligence services.

Ambitious growth plans

Moor is hugely excited about this latest development in relation to the company’s ambitious growth plans. “This is a very significant step for us,” he told info4security. “One which we are very pleased to be able to announce. The Inkerman Group already enjoys an excellent relationship with its German clients, but this new phase shows a further commitment to the market. Our clients will now have access to an even greater range of security and risk management services. Now, we are looking forward to further developing our already well-established client base throughout Germany.”

Strevens appointed chief instructor

At the same time, Task International – part of The Inkerman Group and a provider of specialist training courses – has announced the appointment of Barry Strevens as chief instructor on its close protection course.

Strevens’ impressive career includes 30 years’ experience in the Special Branch. He assumed responsibility for the overall security regime in place to protect Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher for nine years, and for setting up the security network around Lady Thatcher when her stint as PM came to an end. Strevens was also responsible for running the intelligence cell on Irish terrorism.

More recently, Strevens served as head of security (protocol division) at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. As such, he was responsible for the security of conferences, VIP visits and foreign missions to London.

It’s fair to say that Strevens is regarded as one of the foremost experts on security reviews, and in the past has carried out reviews of both UK Embassies and High Commissions. He brings a wealth of practical advice and instruction to those looking for a career in close protection.

Queen’s Police Medal

Awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in 1998, Strevens has already been lecturing on the close protection courses held at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex but will now be increasing his presence there.

Speaking about the appointment, Mark Harry – director of training at Task International – commented: “Barry has a unique level of ‘on the ground’ experience in close protection, and can therefore bring a practical approach to his instruction.” The three-week course, run on a monthly basis, has been part of Task’s specialist training remit for many years.

Gerald Moor added: “Task already enjoys an excellent reputation for its close protection training, and Barry’s increased presence and involvement will add much to the mix.”

Since acquiring Task last October, The Inkerman Group has further integrated the two businesses by employing successfully qualified students from Task courses within its own close protection teams.
