Bosch will be supplying Vattenfall Europe- the continent’s fourth largest electricity supplier- with a total of 16 cameras and a complete video management system for seven plants on Germany’s rivers.
Built in 2003, the Pumpspeicherkraftwerk Goldisthal, located in Germany’s Thuringen region, is one of Europe’s largest hydroelectric plants. It is here that Bosch have chosen to locate the control centre for the IP solution, receiving data from 11 AutoDomes and five fixed cameras.
Connected by a wireless area network, the furthest camera is some 217 kilometres from Goldisthal. Data from the cameras is MPEG-4 compressed by three of Bosch’s VideoJet 8008 eight-channel IP encoders and transmitted over a bandwidth of 1MB.
CCTV cameras in the system are also monitoring generating machinery located in two large caves, hundreds of metres under the Thuringer Schieferbirge mountain near Goldisthal.
Bosch claims its automated guard tour and VIDOS features remove the need for security personnel.
The German company has also provided additional security facilities, including fire and intrusion detection, alarms and an external, self-sufficient video system. Management of these additional systems is provided by Bosch’s Building Integration System.
