Jewellery factory gets CCTV in security project

Factory managers hope the installation of 37 PTZ cameras and 55 fixed head units will encourage workers to adhere to best practice at all times and that their stocks of expensive jewellery will be protected from would-be thieves.

The CCTV system was specified and supplied by Videoline and covers all internal manufacturing areas as well as the site’s perimeter and external storage facilities. Inside, cameras take on a health and safety role and outside, they aim to guard against opportunist raids and improve security.

Installed by Vago, the cameras have been specially positioned around the site to give operators in the control room instant visual information the moment an alarm is triggered. They also work with the factory’s access control system, comparing the identity of those in the factory with those known to have clocked in.

The system is now fully operational and has been described as the cornerstone of a wider project that includes intruder alarms, physical security and a fire alarm system.

Civil works had to be kept to a minimum for the factory to operate effectively, so installers chose NVT’s unshielded twisted pair (UTP) video transmission technology to distribute footage from one place to another.

Videoline’s Marco Lazzaroni said the benefits of using an NVT system were clear from the start.

“We gave Vago a comprehensive demonstration of the superior video quality and unparalleled interference protection an NVT-based installation would deliver. Then we provided Vago with comprehensive training at our facility before they commenced the installation of the system,” he said.

NVT said using their NV-214A-M UTP video transmitters and passive hub receivers meant Vago could balance each video signal to achieve perfect images and ensure complete compatibility with the system’s DVR.

Future-proofing the system was crucial as the factory has seen rapid expansion recently and is expected to grow further in the coming years. NVT claims its system allows new cameras to be easily wired into spare UTP pairs within the building’s Cat5 cable network.

“The factory’s security system is an excellent example of what is possible when cross-format security systems are seamlessly integrated to provide the end-user with a comprehensive and effective security package,” Lazzaroni said.

“Factory management have taken delivery of an overall security package which integrates all their key security measures into one easily administered system, whilst providing an invaluable health and safety, and day-to-day management tool. Installers Vago were very impressed with the training and technical support they received from NVT and Videoline, and this has led to firm plans to continue our technical partnership throughout many major forthcoming projects.”
