Mark Wherrett appointed chairman of BSIA’s CCTV Technical Committee

Security technology specialist Mark Wherrett is the new chairman of the British Security Industry Association’s CCTV Technical Committee.

Wherrett works for surveillance solutions business Synectics as programme manager at its Technology Centre.

Experienced in advising on key sector issues and pioneering surveillance technology innovation, he feels the BSIA’s CCTV Technical Committee is entering an important era.

“It’s an exciting time for us right now,” said Wherrett. “The impending completion of international CCTV standards, the development of the Government’s Code of Practice for CCTV and recent comments made by the Surveillance Camera Commissioner have really put technical discussions around CCTV in the UK in the spotlight – discussions in which the BSIA’s Technical Group is playing a very active role.”

Wherrett continued: “As chairman, my aim is to ensure that the Committee continues to thrive as a hub for technical expertise so that we can continue to offer valuable support using the skills and knowledge from installers, manufacturers and RVRC members, as well as our co-operation with the Home Office’s Centre for Applied Science and Technology to deliver internationally recognised technical guidance on CCTV.”

James Kelly, the BSIA’s CEO, added: “The BSIA is pleased to welcome Mark to the position of CCTV Technical Committee chairman. The Committee has an important role to play in developing professional and technical standards for the sector, and is assisting in the production of a National CCTV Standards Framework for the UK.”

Kelly also stated: “With technology constantly evolving, the BSIA remains committed to ensuring that its rapidly-developing capability works within an appropriate regulatory framework, and the Technical Committee plays an important part in ensuring this.”
