Theft of cabling has led to long delays and cancellations of services, endangering lives and even bringing trains to a halt as failsafe systems turn all signals to red.
While everything from CCTV to helicopter patrols are being used to protect lines, intelligent video provider, Intellio, is using megapixel IP cameras with intruder detection on the Vienna – Budapest line.
Security monitoring staff are alerted by the cameras when an intruder enters a monitored area before reaching the track.
The company claims its system is “completely different from the usual security solutions”.
The recently installed system for MAV, the State Hungarian Railway, has intruder detection, which sends a triggered alarm to the monitoring centre from where guards are alerted.
Intelligent IP cameras at standalone observation points communicate with each other through a WLAN network. Data transfer is through GSM UMTS 3G technology.
Cameras have heavy-duty IR reflector for day/night use, monitoring distances of 40-70 meters. Megapixel resolution differentiates humans from animals or other moving objects
Intellio CEO Janos Kophazi said the goal was to catch offenders before the act and avoid damages.
“By avoiding these situations human lives and millions of euros can be saved.”
